Perfect RSC clients

Wednesday, December 7, 2016

Bob: Have you ever had an opportunity where you walked onto a client site and it was a wonderful area in which to work and ARCHIBUS went very well?

Carly: Yes. Absolutely. We have a lot of clients that have partnered with us and we have built really amazing tools like wayfinders, or we’ve implemented SpaceView, or they’ve put their own spin on it. I think there are a lot of clients, like social media clients, and also several tech companies, that like to move quickly, so they’re fun companies to work with because we build things.

Talking about Bob

Wednesday, November 16, 2016

Carly: I’ve worked for Bob for a while now and what is great is he’s really evolving. He is a completely different person than he was four years ago. We are a completely different company, we have new culture and different leadership. He is working hard to change things for the better of his staff. He is also making us change ourselves to be better staff. That is so important. We read books every month and we meet weekly. It’s hard, but it is exciting and motivating.

Talking about Todd

Wednesday, October 19, 2016

Carly: Todd Forsyth is our new Tech Lead. He is so level headed and he brings so much knowledge and experience to his position. He is bringing us all together as a team by leveling the products and the professional services. He is linking the two together unlike anything we have ever had before at RSC.

How Carly was introduced to ARCHIBUS

Wednesday, September 28, 2016

Bob: How were you introduced to ARCHIBUS?

Carly: I was working for a client and I was asked to space plan. At the time, they hadn’t got ARCHIBUS off the ground and I was a contractor. They said, “If you can get ARCHIBUS off the ground, we will hire you.” So I tried my best to get it off the ground.

Challenges within the IWMS world

Wednesday, September 21, 2016

Bob: In today’s arena of ARCHIBUS, what are some of the largest challenges you’ve faced?

Carly: I think we’ve faced a lot of challenges with politics. It’s very hard for different departments to work with each other. We work across the board: real estate, facilities, HR, IT. I think the hardest part is making sure everyone’s working together and that everyone is benefitting from the tools that we are providing.

Talking about Kerry

Wednesday, September 7, 2016

Carly: I would like to highlight Kerry Montalvo. She’s the RSC angel. She is another person to who you can give anything. It could be ten o’clock at night, the night before a project is due, and you can call her in complete panic and she will, no matter what, step in and either help fix whatever you broke, or build something even better. You may have an expectation that a project is going to take a certain amount of time and it’s going to look a certain way, but she consistently exceeds expectations with timeline and scope.

Talking about Ryan

Wednesday, August 10, 2016

Bob: I know you could probably highlight everybody in the company, but could you give me three examples of employees with who you like working and how they have impressed you?

Carly: Yes. Absolutely. I would say Ryan Casey. He is one of our CAFM experts at RSC. He is exceptional. You can give him any problem and he will figure out a way to do it. Recently, he had a project that required PHP and he had never seen PHP before. He just opened it up and figured it out. That’s exceptional. When you have no idea what something is or what it does and you can open it up, figure it out and deliver it on time, exceeding expectations, that’s amazing.

Why should companies choose RSC?

Wednesday, July 20, 2016

Bob: If you had an opportunity to speak to a client right now and say “You should choose RSC for certain reasons”, what would you tell them?

Carly: It depends on the client. We are not the right business partner for every client. We want clients that want to work with us and want to partner. We are very agile and fast. We don’t have the waterfall methodology; we get things done and we want to get things done for you. If you’re a client that wants things done, wants them done correctly, and wants a company that can tailor it to what you need, then we are the right company for you. If you need a binder documentation and a five year implementation, then we are probably not the right consultant for you.

Why should people want to work for RSC?

Wednesday, June 29, 2016

Bob: If you were to introduce the company to someone who was looking to work for us, what would you say to them to entice them and on what would you caution them to make sure they fit at RSC?

Carly: There is so much I can say about this! First of all, what we’re looking for are self motivated people. We want people that can come into a job, not know a lot about it, and learn and dig in. We don’t want people that don’t want to be here. You have to really want to be here and you have to appreciate what we do. We are all very passionate about our jobs. Every one of us really believe in what we do and we believe in the company, so we only want people that have that, too. You have to be passionate about real estate, or facilities, or some line of work. This is a job that if you want to be the CEO, you can be the CEO, if you work for it. That’s a positive. I don’t think there are a lot of jobs where, if you work hard, you can be whatever you want. I think what’s hard about working at RSC is you do have the ability to be whatever you want so when you come in, we say, “What do you want to do?” Most people don’t know. They say, “Well, I want to be a programmer.” So they’re a programmer. Then they go, “Well, I miss clients.” It’s hard to pick, but that’s a huge benefit.
We work from home, so you have a little bit of flexibility in your schedule, which I think is really nice for a lot of people. There’s also a caution with that. If you are working from home you really have to be disciplined. You have to make sure that you’re not at home just grocery shopping and doing laundry all day. You have to make sure that you can buckle in and work. That’s easier said than done.

The main thing for me is passion. We want people that care, want to do this, love it, and really think that ARCHIBUS can make a difference in people’s jobs and lives. I know it’s not changing the world, but it changes the facilities world. Facilities is a department that is not appreciated by most companies. It’s at the bottom of the totem pole. It shouldn’t be because it sustains the building and it keeps the lights on and you work there because of the people that work in facilities. ARCHIBUS really shows what people do. It gives people insight to how hard facilities and real estate work for you. It’s important and it changes lives. We want people that believe in that.

The culture at RSC

Wednesday, June 8, 2016

Bob: You talk about RSC culture and I credit you as one of the people that has coined the phrase “RSC 1.0 to RSC 2.0”. Can you talk about that transition and highlight a couple of things that you think have gone in the right direction and where else we need to go?

Carly: We’re in RSC 2.0 moving to RSC 3.0. I think the difference between the two is that RSC 2.0 is very deadline driven. We focus on deadlines and scope, schedule, cost. We don’t miss our deadlines, we care about them. Before, there wasn’t a lot of discipline. The RSC 2.0 culture is very disciplined. We clearly communicate when things are happening. I think communication is so important, it’s different, and it’s such a change. The other aspect is leadership is different and the RSC 2.0 has new staff. We have an amazing team and I think that it’s making a big difference. We have a new tech lead. Bob, the owner has changed a bit. We also have someone dedicated completely to writing proposals. The main thing is we have a lot more structure.
